Logistics Academy UAE
In August 2007, DLC Worldwide was selected to work as the delivery partner to the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT) in the United Arab Emirates.
The remit:

(foundation to degree level) - Facilities development

- All qualifications to be aligned to the emerging UAE qualifications framework
The UAE Government was seeking to establish a full Logistics Academy, providing the highest quality of academic and vocational learning opportunities to the rapidly expanding domestic supply chainsector, as a beacon of excellence within the region. The first cohort of students would be from the UAE military.
The brief was to provide a comprehensive solution - fulfilling all aspects of the project management and delivery to the highest international standards.
DLC Worldwide has provided the skills and expertise to transform the concept of this logistics academy into a tangible high spec vocational
and educational establishment within time and on budget.

As part of the course development a series of unique modules were prepared and validated against the exact requirements of the UAE Ministry of Higher Education, the IAT and the Military. Specifically course materials were developed to take into account the local cultural and legislative requirements, and particular regional priorities such as humanitarian logistics and air freight handling.
Many of the programmes have been designed to be available for either classroom or distance learning and delivered in either English or Arabic, enabling the Academy to offer its students flexible learning opportunities, and through accreditation to progress their lifelong learning opportunity.
The outcomes:
The aim of the project was to provide a portfolio of globally recognised Transport, Logistics and Management academic and vocational qualifications, training both military and civilian personnel within an inspiring learning environment.
The Academy's mission is "to become the leader and provider of choice in education and training programmes for Transport, Logistics and Management in the UAE and throughout the GCC, and to become an internationally renowned Centre of Excellence".
Quality Assurance
A requirement of the contract was that all courses developed should be accredited to international standards. The DLC Worldwide team therefore ensured quality assurance systems and procedures were adhered to in every aspect of project management. As a result the Academy is positioned to apply for the highly regarded and internationally recognised ISO 9001:2008 standard. In addition to the ISO standard, the courses have been accredited at the highest levels - including Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) international accreditation and Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) accreditation. These qualifications have been articulated with a number of UK Universities.
Summary
All project objectives were achieved to the full satisfaction of all stakeholders. Due to the success of the project, DLC Worldwide has been awarded an extended contract to further develop the Academy.
The Logistics Academy is now seen as a beacon of excellence in logistics provision across the region.
